Anubis places an Anubis statue on the field. The statue deals damage over time until it's destroyed or expires.
Anubis lasts 3000 frames if not destroyed prematurely and deals 1 damage every 2 frames, for a total of 1500 damage. The statue has 100 HP.
Unique Interactions
Anubis's damage is unique in that it bypasses any and all defenses. Anubis will always inflict its damage regardless of the enemy's state.
Competitive Overview
Much of Battle Network 1's metagame revolves around Anubis. The overall low damage of other battle chips, as well as the high effective HP of Mega Man due to armor and abundance of Recov300 make Anubis the primary means of dealing damage. Most strategies involve keeping the enemy from destroying Anubis and having means to easily destroy the enemy's Anubis.
The user can shoot through their own Anubis, allowing them to interrupt the enemy's efforts to destroy it.
Anubis's presence makes most all defensive chips ineffective, as Anubis will damage through them.
Anubis placed in the user's area prevents the enemy from claiming that panel with Steal, and thus claiming rows behind the Anubis. This is of particular interest if the user has claimed a panel from the enemy's backmost column. Placing Anubis on that panel will trap the enemy in their column until the Anubis is dealt with.
Counterplay
Anubis's damage cannot be stopped. The only means to end its damage is to destroy the Anubis, either through damage or once its duration expires. While the buster is suitable for this, chips such as RingZap2 and FtrSword are usable as well, particularly if the enemy places their Anubis in an awkward spot the buster can't easily reach.
If the enemy is standing in front of their Anubis, Steal can potentially lock them in place until their Anubis is destroyed or they use their own Steal.
