First Barrier forces the opponent to remove the barrier by either using a chip, going into Tengu Cross and using its B+Left or charge shot, landing a charge shot, or chasing the opponent and hitting them with multiple uncharged buster shots.
The 6 gained protects its user from Cursor chips that would destroy Traps such as 6. Because of this, First Barrier is a good counter to an immediate turn 1 6.
First Barrier allows its user to use 6 and return to the custom screen almost completely uncontested. Dust Cross and Charge Cross can take advantage of this to utilize their Dust Chute and additional custom slot immediately.
