Competitive Overview

First Barrier provides immediate defense at the start of battle, preventing an opponent from immediately damaging or decrossing its user in the first few seconds of a round.

First Barrier forces the opponent to remove the barrier by either using a chip, going into Tengu Cross and using its B+Left or charge shot, landing a charge shot, or chasing the opponent and hitting them with multiple uncharged buster shots.

The Chip Icon 6 Standard 180.png Barrier gained ensures its user is protected from Element 6 Cursor.pngCursor chips that would destroy Traps such as Chip Icon 6 Standard 189.png AntiDmg and chips that pierce Flashing that counter Chip Icon 6 Standard 179.png Invisibl. Because of this, First Barrier is the best check to an immediate turn 1 Chip Icon 6 Mega 016 Gregar.png EraseMan.

First Barrier allows its user to use Chip Icon 6 Standard 176.png FullCust and return to the custom screen almost completely uncontested. Dust Cross and Charge Cross can take advantage of this to utilize their Dust Chute and additional custom slot immediately. This strategy also allows a player to immediately go into their Beast Cross of choice at the start of battle by entering their Cross of choice turn 1, using Full Custom, then using Beast Out turn 2.

First Barrier is small and has a compact shape that allows it to occupy a single tile on the command line. Because of this, it is easy to fit in a number of custs and is frequently run.

Counterplay

Tengu Cross can remove the barrier with its B+Left ability or with its charge shot.
